Business Spotlight: Beyond the Cup

We drink a lot of coffee in the creative industry. It fuels our pitches, sparks our brainstorming sessions, and gets us through those tight Friday deadlines.

But what if your daily caffeine hit did more than just cure the 3PM slump? What if it actually changed lives?

Meet Beyond the Cup, an incredible Australian social enterprise turning a daily routine into a powerful force for good. Their model is simple: $5 from every single bag of coffee goes directly to a charity of your choice.

Who is Beyond the Cup?

The story behind it is deeply personal. One of the original owners lost his brother at just 59 after a 3.5-year battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a devastating illness often called “The Beast” because of the way it slowly takes away movement, speech, and independence.

As a family-run business, the loss was felt deeply both personally and professionally. Not long after, the remaining owner was also diagnosed with cancer. In the middle of grief, fear, and uncertainty, one question kept coming up: how do you turn something so heavy into something meaningful?

The answer became Beyond the Cup.

Choose your impact

What started as a way to cope slowly grew into a mission: to create a product that people use every day and attach it to causes that matter. Something as simple as a bag of coffee could become a way to give back, start conversations, and support families going through their hardest moments.

Today, Beyond the Cup proudly supports four Australian charities:

  • The Smith Family: helps break the cycle of disadvantage by supporting children through education, mentoring, and learning programs. Their focus is giving young people the tools they need to build a stronger future.
  • Beyond Blue: provides mental health support, information, and resources for Australians experiencing anxiety, depression, and emotional distress, helping reduce stigma and encourage early support.
  • FightMND: funds critical research and care initiatives with the goal of finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure for motor neurone disease.
  • Cancer Council Australia: leads work in cancer research, prevention, and support services, helping improve survival rates and supporting people and families affected by cancer.

Make the switch

As creatives, we talk a lot about culture, values, and alignment. Switching your coffee supply to Beyond the Cup is one of the easiest ways to put those words into action.
